Speed limit reductions in effect to increase roadway safety

CALEDON, ON (September 27, 2024) – Caledon is advancing its commitment to enhancing road safety by reducing speed limits across Caledon. As of today, residents will see the updated speed limits signs posted throughout the community.

In June, Council approved speed limit reductions on Town roads, where warranted, to enhance road safety. Similar to other municipalities, speed limits in Caledon follow protocol outlined by the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC). The speed limits are established in relation to roadway characteristics and engineering criteria.

“Community safety is always a top priority,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Together with community partners, such as the OPP, the enforcement of these speed limit reductions will help protect our roads, our neighbourhoods, our residents, and our visitors.”

The new speed limits will help ensure a safe community for all road users, including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. “NEW!” signs indicating the speed limit has changed are installed at strategic locations in each impacted area.

“Reducing speed limits on Town roads is an extensive, data-driven process,” said Domenica D’Amico, Commissioner of Engineering, Public Works and Transportation. “These changes will ensure the speed of traffic in Caledon is aligned with road conditions and reflect our commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.”

Drivers in Caledon are encouraged to always double-check the speed limit while driving and pay attention to all roadway signage on your journey. For additional information, view our comprehensive map that outlines all speed limit changes.
