Clean Yards and Property Standards
Caledon's Clean Yards and Property Standards By-laws set out the rules but we all have a role in keeping the Town clean and attractive. Our enforcement officers respond to complaints but the onus is on you as a property owner to take care of your land.
Lawns and yards
As a property owner, you must cut and maintain the grass on your lawn. No grass and weeds can be higher than 20 cm (8"). Your yard must be clean and free from insects, vermin and conditions that may lead to pest infestations. Please remove any decayed or damaged trees and limbs that can create a danger.
Waste and debris
Make sure that your property is clear of any waste or debris, including:
- Abandoned or non-working motor vehicles
- Appliances
- Construction or demolition materials
- Furniture
Water drainage
Please make sure that water draining from your property does not have a negative impact on any nearby lots and be careful to not block a ditch or swale used for drainage.
Other responsibilities
Here are the things you are responsible for maintaining:
- Chimneys, stacks and vents
- Doors
- Downspouts
- Eavestroughs
- Gutters
- Hot tubs
- Pools
- Roofs
- Wading pools and artificial ponds
- Windows
Painted, stained, or varnished exterior surfaces should be maintained as well.
