Black History Month: Celebrating the achievements and contributions of Black communities

January 30, 2025 - (CALEDON, ON) – To mark Black History Month, several exhibits and presentations will take place throughout Caledon, including the impacts made by residents throughout our history.

“Black History Month is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, celebrate the achievements and resilience of Black communities, and foster learning and connection,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “I encourage everyone to attend our various community events that bring awareness to the work done by the Black community to shape our country.”

Events taking place in Caledon:

Our Voices, Our Journeys

Virtual exhibit that celebrates Black communities across Peel.

  • Together with Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) we are highlighting this virtual exhibition from PAMA created in partnership with the North Peel Community Church.
  • The virtual exhibit is available on the PAMA website

Black Trailblazers Exhibit

Learn about more than 50 Black trailblazers in fields of sport, armed forces, media and military veterans. Displayed in partnership with PAMA and North Peel Community Church.

Celebrating Black History Month with Captain Kevin Junor

Presentation and Q&A about the No. 2 Construction Battalion in World War I

  • Caledon East Community Complex – Banquet Hall
  • Free admission. Refreshments included.

The Town’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) program, developed in 2021, guides efforts in fostering all cultures and communities that call Caledon home. This February and beyond, the Town of Caledon reaffirms its commitment to celebrating Black culture, providing educational opportunities to staff, recognizing Black history, amplifying Black voices and celebrating the lives of Black Canadians.
