Caledon announces new Fire Chief

November 17, 2023 (Caledon, ON) - The Town of Caledon is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Dave Pelayo as the new Fire Chief of Caledon Fire and Emergency Services.

Mr. Pelayo, currently serving as Caledon’s Deputy Fire Chief of Fire Prevention and Training, is a well-respected member of the Caledon Fire and Emergency Services who has dedicated his career to the safety and betterment of others for over 20 years. He started his career with Brampton Fire before moving to Caledon, first as a volunteer firefighter and then as a professional firefighter/inspector. Dave proudly served with Station 302, in Bolton, and grew through the ranks serving in both Caledon and Brampton Fire Services in leadership roles.

“I’m delighted that Mr. Pelayo has accepted this leadership role with the Town of Caledon,” stated Nathan Hyde, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). “His transition into this new role reflects our commitment to nurturing and promoting talent. The recruitment for the Fire Chief role was widespread, with top-quality candidates applying from across Canada. Mr. Pelayo stood out among these candidates, and we’re excited for him to take over as Fire Chief in the coming weeks.”

As Caledon transitions to a single-tier municipality, it continues to build a cohesive and high-performing leadership team. The familiarity with the community, its residents and its vision will position the new Fire Chief as a pivotal leader in the town’s future. 

Over the next month, Mr. Pelayo will collaborate closely with outgoing Fire Chief Dave Forfar, ensuring a seamless transition and positioning Caledon Fire for continued success. Chief Forfar's retirement marks the end of a dedicated era, and we express our gratitude for his years of service to Caledon.

“We would like to once again thank Chief Forfar for his years of dedicated service to Caledon, and we are pleased that Deputy Chief Pelayo will be able to work closely with him until Chief Forfar’s retirement begins,” added Hyde.

Deputy Chief Pelayo is scheduled to assume his new role as Fire Chief on Monday, December 18, 2023. The Town of Caledon is confident that under his leadership, Caledon Fire and Emergency Services will continue to excel, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
