Caledon continues to crack down on Illegal Trucking – new Illegal Trucking Guide available
June 16, 2022 - The Town of Caledon continues to identify and investigate illegal trucking operations in the community and has released an Illegal Trucking Guide and dedicated trucking webpage to support this effort.
These resources contain helpful information for members of the trucking and logistics industries, realtors, residents and others interested in trucking operations in Caledon on how to operate legally.
Caledon is proud to be a destination for trucking and logistics operations and the Town wants to support legitimate operators as they build their businesses. This includes bringing enforcement action against those who do not comply with Town’s by-laws. As of September 2021, the Town’s Municipal Law Enforcement Division has identified over 200 properties with suspected illegal trucking operations. The Town has also been issuing fines and in December 2021, successfully prosecuted an illegal trucking operation resulting in a $1 million fine.
“Enforcement and education go hand-in-hand,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “As we help existing properties come into compliance with our land use by-laws, we want to make sure new operators opening their businesses in Caledon know our rules.”
“Illegal trucking has lasting negative impacts on our communities, and we will continue to take action,” said Mark Sraga, Director, Building Services and Municipal Law Enforcement Division. “These new resources will help operators understand our rules and will direct them to the appropriate Town division for more detailed information.”
The Town encourages members of the trucking and logistics industries, realtors and residents to visit the Town’s new trucking webpage and to check out the new Illegal Trucking Guide for more information on how to store trucks legally in Caledon and to stay up-to-date on the Town’s enforcement activities.
