Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament Recipient Announced

April 26, 2023 (CALEDON) – At yesterday’s Caledon Council meeting, National Wildlife Centre (NWC) was announced as the primary recipient of the 2023 Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament (CCGT) to receive $75,000.

“I thank the Caledon Council Community Golf Committee members, sponsors, participants and supporters for their commitment and dedication,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Each year, this tournament greatly benefits Caledon by helping local organizations serve the community.”

“We are pleased to announce this funding for National Wildlife Centre, it means a great deal for Caledon to have a local wildlife hospital,” said Caledon Council Community Golf Committee Chair, Lynn Kiernan, Ward 1 Councillor. “Caledon has many wildlife habitats and the new centre will help care for sick, injured or orphaned animals locally. It will also feature education and programming suitable for both residents and visitors.”

The funding will support the mobile hospital as well as construction of a new field wildlife hospital to serve the community and beyond. Currently NWC operates a mobile wildlife veterinary clinic for injured, sick or orphaned animals, a permanent location will allow them to accept animals from the public as well.

“We are very excited as this funding will enable us to offer more support and carry out our work in the community and beyond for wildlife,” said Dr. Sherri Cox, Medical Director and President of the National Wildlife Centre and assistant professor at University of Guelph. “National Wildlife Centre operates under four pillars: rehabilitation and surgery, conservation and education, knowledge creation and sharing, and emergency preparedness and response. With the new centre we will be able to admit sick and injured wild animals, offer care and programs for the community.”
