Caledon Culture Days kicks off with flag raising and 50th Anniversary Community Mural unveiling

September 20, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – Culture Days has officially returned to the Town of Caledon. Today, Mayor Groves, Council, community partners, and Town staff kicked off the 2024 celebrations with a flag-raising ceremony and the unveiling of a new community mural commemorating Caledon’s golden anniversary.

The 50th Anniversary Community Mural was designed by Caledon Artist, Nikita Mistry, as a paint-by-numbers project. Community members participated in the painting process during Caledon Day in June. The mural celebrates the harmony between Caledon residents and the Town’s urban and rural landscapes - complete with several iconic Caledon landmarks.

“As we celebrate 50 years of Caledon, we also celebrate our vibrant community that has been the cornerstone of our success,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Much like our community mural, Caledon is a reflection of the residents and visitors that make our town a better place. Today, I am proud to recognize Caledon’s 50th anniversary and invite everyone to enjoy the upcoming Culture Days events.”

Culture Days is a national celebration of arts, culture and heritage, taking place from September 20 to October 13 throughout Caledon. This free festival is a behind-the-scenes, immersive experience of Caledon's rich arts and culture scene.

Upcoming Culture Day events include:

Caledon Studio Tour (September 21-22)
With 18 stops across the Town of Caledon and 26 artists to see, this self-guided weekend-long tour gets you up close and personal with the artist process.

Caledon Creative Arts Festival (September 28)
The Caledon Creative Arts Festival is an opportunity for residents and visitors to engage with local artists and performers at the Caledon East Community Complex. The day will be filled with workshops from local artists, a vendor market, activities for kids, and much more.

Caledon CultureFest (October 5)
Join us for a day of food, dance and crafts at the Humber River Centre as we learn about the many cultures that are a part of Caledon.

“Through participation in Culture Days, the Town of Caledon aims to reduce barriers to accessing the arts, immerse residents in Caledon’s cultural vibrancy and enrich visitor experiences,” said Catherine McLean, Commissioner of Community and Human Services. “What better way to celebrate 50 years of Caledon than sharing cultural experiences with the community, who are a big part of what makes Caledon a great place to live, work and play.”
