Caledon declares National AccessAbility Week May 26 - June 1
May 24, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – At Council on Tuesday, May 21, Mayor Annette Groves proclaimed the week of May 26 to June 1 as National AccessAbility Week, on behalf of the Town of Caledon and Council.
“National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities, as well as promote accessibility and inclusion in all aspects of life,” commented Mayor Annette Groves, Town of Caledon. “The Town is committed to inclusivity and establishing an environment that is open and accessible for residents of all abilities.”
This endorsement reflects the Town’s support of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) and commitment to achieving a barrier-free Caledon. This year’s theme for National AccessAbility Week is “Forward Together – Accessibility and Inclusion for All,” emphasizing the need for collective efforts towards barrier-free communities and that strength lies in the diversity of people.
There are more invisible disabilities than you think.
-
96% of people with chronic medical conditions live with an illness
-
20% of Canadians will experience mental illness
-
10% of Canadians have a learning disability
Throughout National AccessAbility Week, the Town will be sharing posts on social media to help build awareness. Join us in recognizing #NAAW2024 from May 26 to June 1!
