Caledon designated as a Regional Fire and Emergency Training Centre
CALEDON, ON (October 29, 2024) – On Monday, October 28, the Ontario Fire Marshal officially designated Caledon Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) as the GTA’s second Regional Training Centre. Caledon’s facility, which is located in Caledon Village, demonstrates the Town’s commitment to excellence in emergency response training and community safety and positions CFES as a leader in training emergency responders across the region.
“This designation is a testament to Council’s commitment to Caledon Fire and Emergency Services and the safety of our community. By investing in our responders, we are investing in the future of Caledon,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “This is a significant step towards ensuring we have a robust emergency response system that can adapt to the needs of our growing community.”
Ensuring that firefighters are well-trained and equipped is essential to protecting residents as Caledon’s population continues to grow. This new training centre will not only provide Caledon firefighters with advanced skills and knowledge, but will also strengthen relationships with neighbouring municipalities, enhancing the Town’s collective response.
“We are proud to receive this designation and grateful to the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal for providing us with this opportunity,” said Chief Dave Pelayo, Caledon Fire and Emergency Services. “Having a Regional Training Centre will not only benefit our team but will also support other municipalities to ensure firefighters are receiving the best training possible.”
This designation is part of a broader initiative to improve emergency service capabilities in Caledon, ensuring that staff are well-equipped to respond to various emergencies, from fires to medical incidents.
Key Highlights:
Enhanced Training Programs: CFES will offer a range of specialized training courses, including advanced firefighting techniques, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, and incident command training. These programs will be tailored to meet the unique needs of our community.
State-of-the-Art Facilities: The Training Centre will utilize modern facilities and equipment, ensuring that all training exercises are conducted in a safe and realistic environment. This includes live-fire training structures, simulation equipment, and classroom spaces equipped with the latest technology.
