Caledon Honours Outstanding Citizens
The Town of Caledon handed out 42 honours to outstanding citizens as part of its annual Community Recognition Night on April 17, 2018.
“This is our opportunity to celebrate and thank the outstanding people that truly make us #CaledonProud,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “From volunteers to athletes to artists and beyond they in their own ways help build and enrich our community.”
About Community Recognition Night
Community Recognition Night is an annual event that recognizes individuals whose efforts have made significant impact towards the development and advancement of recreational sports, arts and culture, environmental leadership or community and social services.
The awards cover two broad categories.
- Volunteer Service Awards recognize Caledon residents whose efforts have made significant impact towards the development and advancement of recreational sports, arts and culture, environmental leadership or community and social services.
- Citizen Achievement Awards are designed to recognize Caledon residents who have competed or been recognized at the Provincial, National or International levels in the areas of sport and arts and culture.
In addition a single recipient is singled out for the special Community Champion Award. The highest honour of the night, the Community Champion is chosen from among all the nominees by the Selection Committee based on the significance of their community involvement and years of service.
This year’s Community Champion Award goes to Noreen Bridgen. A Caledon resident for over 35 years, Noreen was one of the first volunteers with Bethell Hospice. She supports clients and family members during some of the most trying times of their lives, handling it with the highest level of professionalism and compassion. When not volunteering at the hospice, she can be found at the James Bolton Public School Reading Club where her grandson is a student, which she also did for many years prior at Belfountain Public School. Noreen is also a volunteer and member of the Fung Loy Kok Institute’s Tai Chi Society.
