Caledon now offering free menstrual products at Town facilities

February 8, 2023 – The Town of Caledon is proud to support ‘The Red Mvmnt’, offering free menstrual products at Town-operated facilities. Dispensers providing free tampons and pads can be found in many washrooms across the municipality. Need one? Take one!

“Canadian women spend over $6,000 on menstrual products over their lifetime, and this is a financial obstacle for many,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Offering these free products throughout Town facilities is one way we are helping to provide poverty relief, and I’m proud to announce our participation in The Red Mvmnt.”

Council approved a report from staff in 2022 recommending Caledon support The Red Mvmnt, a youth-led nonprofit organization, that is working to advance menstrual equity, a long-term solution to period poverty. The free menstrual product dispensers are now installed in facilities throughout Caledon, including:

  • Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness
  • Albion Bolton Community Centre
  • Mayfield Recreation Complex
  • Southfields Community Centre
  • Caledon East Community Complex
  • Cheltenham Community Room
  • Lloyd Wilson Centennial Arena
  • Inglewood Community Centre

Dispensers will also be installed throughout key park washroom facilities by the spring.

Joining The Red Mvmnt demonstrates the Town of Caledon is making progress towards the deliverables of our diversity, equity and inclusion framework and is dedicated to creating inclusive and equitable communities.

“We are excited to support The Red Mvmnt, and proud to be helping reduce period poverty,” said Kevin Kyle, Manager of Community Facilities. “When all the installations are completed, dispensers will be available providing free products to those in need at 22 Town-operated facilities.”
