Caledon OPP is investigating an assault on a municipal law enforcement officer

November 28, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a suspect in relation to the assault of a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer last Sunday.

On November 24, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Caledon OPP responded to an assault on Fallview Circle, in the community of Southfields Village. A Town of Caledon Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, in the course of their duties, was assaulted by a group of individuals. The officer was transported to hospital and the injuries were later deemed to be minor.

On November 28, 2024, members of the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit located and arrested one suspect in relation to the assault. An arrest warrant is being sought for a second suspect who has been identified but not yet located. The identity of a third remains unknown. Additional details will be released when available.

The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit and the Regional Support Team. “Thank you to the Caledon OPP for their swift action to make an arrest and thank you to the community for coming forward with information. This is the first time in recent years that there was an assault on a Town of Caledon bylaw officer while on the job. No-one should ever face the risk of violence when they go to work. Employee safety remains our top priority, and we continue to work with our entire staff team to ensure they feel safe when they come to work,” said Mayor Annette Groves.
