Caledon receives $2.8 million through Province’s Building Faster Fund
CALEDON, ON (March 15, 2024) –Today, the Province of Ontario awarded a grant of $2.8 million from the Building Faster Fund for the Town of Caledon, acknowledging the municipality's progress on its Housing Pledge and its contribution to the Province’s objective to build 1.5 million new residences by 2031. To receive this funding, municipalities must achieve 80 per cent of their annual housing target. The Town of Caledon has met 82 per cent of its 2023 housing target, highlighting the paramount importance of expanding housing options to foster sustainable development and ensure equitable progress within the community.
“I thank the Associate Minister for attending today and this funding to help us with our goal of bringing homes to Caledon. Housing is the foundation of socio-economic resilience, providing individuals and families with stability and security. Prioritizing a range of housing choices is essential for fostering inclusive communities and promoting equitable growth,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “As we embark on the journey to construct new homes, the allocation of this funding demonstrates our unwavering dedication to this cause. It signifies our readiness to tackle the housing challenge head-on and reaffirms our commitment to building a better, more accessible future for all.”
“This announcement not only underscores our steadfast commitment and vision for sustainable growth in Caledon, but also that we are open for business. I thank our dedicated staff who are committed to realizing our housing targets in harmony with our strategic blueprint, aimed at fostering vibrant rural and urban communities for everyone,” commented CAO Nathan Hyde.
Assigned by Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH), Caledon has been tasked with establishing 13,000 new dwellings by 2031. Caledon committed to fulfilling its target and this commitment was further reinforced when, on March 21, 2023, the Town of Caledon Council endorsed a Housing Pledge to support the target, echoing the Province's overarching aim.
