Changes coming to level 3 electric vehicle charging stations
Electric vehicles have been quickly gaining popularity in Ontario and across Canada due to their environmental benefits. The Town of Caledon and its Council have actively supported electric vehicles through the installation of both Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations.
As approved in the 2018 budget, the Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations owned by the Town of Caledon will be pay-per-use of $0.17/minute, effective February 1, 2018, which equates to $5.10 for a 30 minute charge. Level 2 charging stations located across the Town will remain available at no cost.
“This change is in place to cover the cost of the electricity, as well as to encourage the station to become available upon successful charge to the next vehicle owner,” says Katelyn McFadyen, Manager, Energy & Environment. “Caledon is a geographically vast municipality and gasoline-powered vehicles are of particular environmental concern. Smart commuting, through active transportation, carpooling and alternate fuels (biodiesel, hybrid or electric vehicles) is encouraged to reduce the environmental impact of transportation.”
The Town currently has two Level 2 charging stations located downtown Bolton in the Municipal parking lot and six available at Town Hall in Caledon East. There are also two Level 3 charging stations located at Albion Bolton Community Centre and Margaret Dunn Library. All Town-owned charging stations are available for public use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Town will continue to support electric vehicle drivers and is actively looking to expand both the Level 2 and Level 3 charging networks around the Town. Learn more about electric vehicles and view a map of the charging stations: www.caledon.ca/sustaintransport.
