Mayor’s Statement Regarding Proposed Zoning By-law Amendments
Following the Planning and Development Committee (PDC) Meeting on Thursday, April 25, Mayor Groves made a statement during Council to clarify that the Proposed Zoning By-law Amendments are being put on hold to allow for further public consultation. The Town will host a series of three information sessions in the coming month in various areas across Caledon to provide further clarity around the process, answer questions put forward by the public at the PDC Meeting and provide more information on the 12 applications. The public will be provided details on the information sessions as soon as they are available.

Council endorses National AccessAbility Week Working Group
Councillor Russo motioned to form a working group to help resource and celebrate this year’s National AccessAbility Week. Council supported the motion and at the May 21 Council Meeting the Mayor will proclaim National AccessAbility Week for the Town of Caledon from May 26 to June 1. This endorsement reflects Town and Council’s commitment to achieving a barrier-free Caledon and support for the Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Council opts out of Cannabis Retail Stores
In 2018, the federal government legalized recreational cannabis and the province provided municipalities the option to opt-in or opt-out of permitting cannabis retail stores in their communities. In 2019, Council opted out of permitting cannabis retail stores to operate in the Town of Caledon and recently reviewed the decision, with input from the community. After the review, Council has voted to not permit (opt-out of) cannabis retail stores in the Town of Caledon.

Park Washroom Facility Service Levels
Council directed staff to review current washroom provisions in existing District and Community Parks to ensure they meet the Town’s service levels and that the additional 44 existing neighbourhood parks be assessed using the same existing criteria for the purpose of the washroom facility considerations.
