2022 Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament fundraising success
Abbeyfield Caledon will receive $75,000 as the primary grant recipient for the 2022 Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament (CCCGT). The remainder of the 2022 net proceeds, $46,114 will be added to the CCCGT Grant Fund.
Applications for the next CCCGT are due by January 31, 2023. The primary grant recipient will be selected by Council in March and staff will present a recommendation for the CCCGT secondary grant recipients.
The CCCGT is an annual charity event that raises funds for non-profit organizations located in Caledon. From 2004 to 2022, the CCCGT has donated a total of $1,274,700 to community organizations.
Free Aquatic Leadership pilot project to help increase Aquatics programs
A pilot program will launch in January offering no-cost aquatic leadership courses for swim instructors and lifeguards. Aquatics staff shortage is an issue faced by many municipalities and through this pilot program the Town can address this shortage and improve the availability of aquatic services. The program will be effective through 2023 and reassessed before the 2024 budget process. Details will follow in the coming weeks.
Southfields seniors pilot program offers meeting space
Council approved a pilot program with the Southfields Village Seniors Group (SVSC). The program provides access for the group, if/when space is available, free of charge at the Southfields Community Centre from January to April 2023, when meeting outdoors is not an option. The SVSC is an affiliate group of the Town and is known for hosting an annual seniors’ picnic as well as gathering each day in Southfields’ neighbourhoods and community parks. SVSC is considered stewards of Wilson Park, John Clarkson Park, Snellview Park, Bonnieglen Farm Park and Dennison Park. The members help ensure the parks are maintained by cleaning up garbage and reporting maintenance issues. If the pilot is successful, it may open doors for arrangements with other groups to use Town community centres.
