Caledon’s Housing Pledge

Council voted to defer approval of Caledon’s Housing Pledge to allow the Region of Peel time to put forward Regional requests to the Province as well as give Town staff more time for fine tuning.  The pledge outlines how the Town will meet its housing target of 13,000 residential units by 2031 as set by the Province, and the support it will need to achieve it. The pledge asks the province to work with the Town to understand the impacts and investments needed to grow in a sustainable and affordable way.

Any new housing in Caledon needs access to transit, community amenities, parkland and infrastructure like roads and water – all of which impact the Town’s ability to achieve the Housing Pledge. Learn more

Staff will present any changes to the pledge at a special Council meeting on March 21, 2023.

Automated Speed Enforcement in Community Safety Zones

Council approved the use of Automatic Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in Caledon for 2023 to enhance safety and enforce speed restrictions in Community Safety Zones (CSZ) on Town Roads. The Town's ASE Program uses two (2) mobile cameras that are installed in designated CSZs to photograph licence plates of  moving vehicles travelling over the posted speed limit. The photo is then reviewed by a provincial offences officer, and a fine is mailed.

“Coming Soon" signs will be up for at least 90 days, wherever a speed camera will be placed to alert motorists. Once the speed camera goes live, the coming soon sign will be replaced by a "Municipal Speed Camera in Use" sign.

New Transit Service - Dixie Road

Council voted to expand transit service in Caledon to include Dixie Road, north of Mayfield Road by late 2023. The expansion provided by Brampton Transit will be funded from the Provincial Gas Tax Reserve at $60,000 annually.

The service provides employees with a safe and convenient way of getting to and from work.  Peak Hours, Mid-Day and Evening Service will be provided on Dixie Road with a total of nine trips per day. The Town will continue to expand public transit across Caledon that is cost-effective, environmentally sustainable and convenient for residents.
