Consolidated Approvals Program for Low-risk Stormwater Projects
The Town of Caledon will enter into an agreement from the Province to participate in the Consolidated Linear Infrastructure Environmental Compliance Approval Program. Through this, the Town will be given authority to approve low risk stormwater infrastructure projects on behalf of the Province. The new process will enhance environmental protection through a holistic approach and provide more consistent operation, maintenance, and monitoring requirements; reduce processing timelines and provide clear, transparent consistent requirements across Ontario municipalities.
2022 Association of Municipalities Ontario Conference Priorities
The Town of Caledon will request to meet with the Province at the 2022 Association of Municipalities Ontario Conference on the following matters:
Caledon-Vaughan GO Line
Continue to support the Caledon-Vaughan GO Line business case to completion and include the rail service in the next Metrolinx Regional Transportation Plan Update with an in-service date of before 2041.
Local Planning Equity
Provide local municipalities equal opportunity to control local planning matters with respect to growth, settlement areas and boundary expansions, transit areas and employment lands.
Climate Change
Enact policies and legislation and deliver funding programs that support municipal action on climate change adaptation and mitigation and enable a low carbon transition.
Finance
Commit to a provincial-municipal system that is stable, sustainable and affordable for property taxpayers.
Broadband Internet Connectivity
Accelerate the allocation of broadband funding and address broadband gaps ensuring affordable Internet rates for residents and businesses.
Infrastructure Management
Invest in public infrastructure such as roads, transit, active transportation and energy infrastructure that is low-carbon, climate adaptive, accommodates growth and supports healthy and safe communities.
Affordable Housing
Work with municipalities to advance policies and programs that expedite a full range of affordable rental, independent living and multi-storey housing options.
Transportation
Advocate by requesting the Region of Peel and the Ministry of Transportation consider installing a Red-Light Camera at the intersection of Highway 10 and Charleston Sideroad and placing an Automated Speed Enforcement camera within the community safety zone along Highway 10 in Caledon Village.
Feasibility of Constructing a Community and Therapeutic Pool
Council adopted a motion to investigate the feasibility of constructing and operating a community/therapeutic pool in Ward 1 and report back on aquatic initiatives such as swimming lessons; seniors exercise and therapeutic uses; combining the pool building in a new park area adjacent to a settlement; potential locations; partnership with Headwaters Hospital; contracts with a private physiotherapy clinic; draft capital and operating budget; and projected users. A draft report to Council be made in the third quarter of 2023.
Proposed Meeting Additions to the 2022 Council & Committee Meeting Schedule for June
A number of meetings will be added to the Council and Committee schedule to accommodate various matters
• Planning and Development Committee Meeting on Wednesday, June 8 at 2:30 p.m. Official Plan Workshop.
• General Committee – Public Meeting on Tuesday, June 14 at 5 p.m. Area Specific Development Charges By-law
• Planning and Development Committee Meeting on Tuesday, June 14 at 7 p.m.
