Mountainview Road Rehabilitation – Construction expected to begin Spring 2025
The Engineering Department of the Town of Caledon would like to update residents on the Mountainview Road Rehabilitation construction project announced earlier this year for works between Old Base Line and Walker Road W.
Due to contractor pricing, the Town was unable to award and construct the rehabilitation design that was scheduled for 2024 construction. This rehabilitation design will include 3.3 meter lanes and 1.2 meter paved shoulders throughout the corridor to accommodate cyclist and pedestrian traffic to and from the Caledon Trailway. Ditching work will address active drainage concerns for the road platform, as well as adjacent properties, protecting the renewed road condition for its full-service life. Roadway culverts will be replaced based on their condition to avoid further work in the future and assist in properly managing storm water. This design will not raise the road elevation, this is done to minimize the adjacent land impacts and maintain existing driveway entrances. All driveways and entrances will be restored in a like-for-like fashion during the construction.
Additionally, this project will now include a storm water management facility (grass swale and infiltration area) cleanout directly adjacent to this road rehabilitation between Damascus Drive and Cranston Drive along the east shoulder. This work will help ensure the proper management of storm water within the area and roadway.
It is expected that capital construction will occur in spring and summer 2025.
Another notice will be circulated once the construction schedule is confirmed and a contractor(s) has been secured. This notice and schedule will outline the timeline of the project to help those in the area plan and navigate around the construction.
In preparation of winter road conditions and plowing, Town staff will continue regular road assessments and maintenance to ensure the road is safe for residents throughout the fall and winter. Town Operations staff will continue with asphalt patching and pothole remediation this fall.
We will keep you updated and share more information as it becomes available. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out.
