National Public Works Week: Celebrating Community

Public Works Week

Staff who work in areas that provide and maintain public infrastructure and services will be recognized and honoured during National Public Works Week, May 19 – 25, 2019. Town Activities and programs scheduled for the week will celebrate the contributions of public works professionals as well as the communities they serve.

“The goal of National Public Works Week is to recognize the great staff contributions, as well as educating the community on roles and responsibilities of public works professionals,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “We appreciate and value the role public works professionals play in keeping our communities safe and functioning smoothly.”

Public works professionals at the Town include those who manage, maintain, and rehabilitate roadways, sidewalks, & bridges, transportation engineering, crossing guards, energy & environment initiatives, and Town facilities. Staff maintain and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health, safety and comfort.

Local activities scheduled for National Public Works Week include:

  • May 19 – 25 – Town Hall Display, Atrium | Student Artwork, JK – 3, School Crossing Guard Thank You Cards and Grades 4-8, “What Does Public Works Mean to You and Your Community” posters.
  • May 24 – Crossing Guard Appreciation Day | Say a special thank you to your crossing guard
