Notice of Public Meeting and Open House - Supplementary Aggregate Policy Study (Sep 3, 2024)

This is to inform you that Draft Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments has been prepared for the Caledon Supplementary Aggregate Policy Study. An Open House and Statutory Public Meeting will be held to consider the proposed Official Plan Amendment.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS STUDY?

To review and update Town Official Plan aggregate policies and to build upon the joint Region and Town Aggregate Policy Review and the Town’s Aggregate Rehabilitation Master Plan. The Study has reviewed the history of aggregates in Caledon, reviewed Official Plan aggregate policies, and made recommendations for updates to those policies to ensure Caledon effectively plans for aggregate resource extraxtion while protecting its rural residents and natural environment.

In October 2022, Council directed Town Staff to initiate the Supplementary Aggregate Policy Study, and enacted Interim Control By-law No. 2022-075 to control the establishment of new pits and quarries while the Study was in progress.

WHAT STAGE OF THE STUDY ARE WE AT?

In May 2024, Council received a Supplementary Aggregate Policy Study Status Update Report and a Background Report as information items. A Policy Options Report was released for public comment and a public open house held on July 25, 2024. Public input received on the Policy Options Report was used to inform Draft Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments. The draft Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments are posted on the project website.

LEGAL NOTICES REQUIRED UNDER THE PLANNING ACT

If a person or public body would otherwise have an ability to appeal the decision of the Town of Caledon to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Town of Caledon before the proposed Official Plan is adopted, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision.
If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Town of Caledon before the proposed Official Plan Amendment is adopted, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a party.

If you wish to be notified of the decision of the Town of Caledon on the proposed Official Plan, you must make a written request to the Town of Caledon, 6311 Old Church Road, Caledon, ON L7C 1J6

Information provided in response to this notice will be collected in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. With the exception of personal information, all comments will be part of the public record.
