Province of Ontario transfers Provincial Offences Part III and Part IX prosecutions to Town
CALEDON, ON (February 26, 2024) – Effective March 4, Part III and Part IX prosecutions under the Provincial Offences Act are being transferred to Town of Caledon Prosecution Services from the Province of Ontario.
Does this transfer of services impact court operations or existing appointments?
No, the transfer will not interrupt court operations or existing appointments. Caledon Prosecution Services and the Crown Attorney’s office are working closely to ensure a successful transition of duties.
What is a Part III prosecution?
Part III prosecutions trial offences that are issued by a summons. They are more serious charges related to the Highway Traffic Act and require the accused or their representative to appear in court.
What is a Part IX prosecution?
Part IX prosecutions trial offences against rights of property, such as trespassing and property damage.
“Caledon’s Court Services team welcomes this transfer of duties,” said Nicole Klein, Supervisor of Prosecutions. “This streamlining of services allows for enhanced efficiency in our day-to-day operations, including trial scheduling, officer scheduling and an improved disclosure process. Court Services staff will continue to monitor operations and examine where further efficiencies can be implemented.”
