Update (March 26, 2019)
On March 15, 2019, downtown Bolton residents experienced a flooding event that forced many from their homes and caused significant damage to their property. Today, those residents received some great news courtesy of the Province of Ontario. The Province will provide funding support to those affected by the Bolton Flood, through a program called Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program (DRAO).
“I received a call from Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “The Minister informed me that the area in Downtown Bolton affect by the flood waters has officially been declared eligible by the Province for disaster recovery assistance.”
What this means
According to the Province, the disaster assistance program applies to a primary residence and its basic contents, or to a small business, farm or not-for-profit organization. It provides assistance for emergency expenses and the costs to repair or replace essential property following a natural disaster that are not covered by insurance.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Premier Ford and Minister Clark for reviewing the situation in Caledon and providing the necessary assistance to our residents in their time of need,” Thompson continued. “I would also like to express my appreciation to our local MPP, Minister Sylvia Jones, for her advocacy in pushing her government to act quickly for the people of Caledon.”
