Tails wagging for Animal Service Shelter donation
Caledon Animal Services accepted a donation today for $5,000, one of the biggest donations this year, from students and staff at Montessori Country School.
“I thank the Montessori Country school for raising funds for our shelter. Hundreds of animals in need come through our animal shelter doors each year,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “We aim to reunite, rehabilitate, and rehome lost and abandoned animals in our community and this donation is a tremendous help to us in achieving these goals.”
Funds were raised through themed dress down pizza days. Students from toddler to upper elementary participated to enjoy a slice of pizza, fresh veggies and fruit on the last Friday of every month. Elementary students choose themes such as crazy hair day, wear your favourite Disney character and twin days. Grade 1 through to grade 6 students choose at the end of the year in June where to donate the raised funds.
“Our students love animals and have their very own class pets, two goldfish in which they take turns to care of as part of their daily tasks,” said Rosalie De Francesca, Director of Admissions Montessori Country School. “Close to our Nobleton Campus, where Animal Services is located, students wanted to ensure animals in need had the opportunity to have all the resources to make them feel loved and cared for while awaiting their new homes.”
Caledon Animal Services operates programs that help the health and well-being of animals including, Adopt-a-pet, Community Cat Program, Volunteer Foster Program, Lost and Found Pets, Education and Awareness Programs.
“We appreciate the generous donation from Montessori Country School,” said Brenda Dermott, Town of Caledon Supervisor, Animal Services. “The Town of Caledon’s Animal Shelter helps approximately 500 each year and that number continues to grow. We help many lost pets that need care during their stay at the shelter. We also have many animals ready for adoption needing care before leaving for their forever home.”
