Town of Caledon approves 2017 Budget

The Town of Caledon Council approved the 2017 Budget during the Town Council meeting on December 20, 2016, setting the stage for Town services and capital projects for 2017 and beyond. For the average home in Caledon, assessed at $522,000, this blended residential tax increase of 2.45% means a yearly tax increase of $112.87.

“The Town of Caledon’s 2017 budget provides the foundation to continue to build and maintain a strong and prosperous Caledon,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “I am pleased with the unanimous support from councillors present at the Council meeting. We are in the business of building this community, and the commitments in this budget and the investments we will make will do just that.”

Highlights of the Town of Caledon’s 2017 Budget

  • Continuation of the Broadband Levy: The special levy proposed for Broadband will generate $300,000 per year and $1,200,000 to $1,500,000 over 4 and 5 years, respectively.  The plan is that this investment will translate into an approximate $22,500,000 fibre infrastructure buildout in Caledon once Federal, Provincial, and Private contributions are factored in.

The Town's approved 2017 Capital Budget totals $40.4 million; some of the key capital projects for 2017 include:

  • A new Mayfield West Community Centre, including Library and OPP community sub-office, plus a new park in that community
  • Various Town-wide recreation centre upgrades, including: track replacement in the fieldhouse at the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness; and pool repairs at the Mayfield Recreation Centre; Inglewood tennis court resurfacing; Caledon East soccer field lighting; Bolton Camp Challenger baseball diamond; and more
  • A new pumper/tanker fire truck
  • Road rehabilitation and reconstruction, including Humber Station Rd. reconstruction and retaining wall
  • Town bridge construction program – Centreville Creek Rd. bridge south of Old Church Rd.
  • Town-wide stormwater management program
  • Traffic signalization – Healey Road at Holland Drive/Simpson Road
  • Animal shelter kennel replacement
  • A Caledon Public Library remote holds locker program at the Belfountain Community Hall.
