Town of Caledon approves illegal land use task force workplan

February 26, 2025 (CALEDON, ON) – The Illegal Land Use Task Force’s new workplan is aimed at strengthening enforcement and increasing awareness and education about illegal land use in Caledon.

The workplan focuses on four key areas:

  • Advocacy: Advancing Caledon’s commitment to calling on the province to provide municipalities with the enforcement powers needed to stop illegal land use.

  • Education & Engagement: The Town has already launched an interactive map that shows the status of illegal land use complaints across Caledon. It will also host an information session regarding illegal trucking, including the right way to park trucks, how to report violations and an update on the advocacy efforts.

  • Enforcement & Compliance: Updating municipal by-laws to strengthen enforcement powers and hold property owners accountable.

  • Land-Use Planning: Work towards developing a Trucking Strategy, and an update to the Town’s Zoning Bylaw so appropriate locations and standards are identified for transportation depots.

“This workplan is a major step forward in ensuring that land-use policies are effectively enforced and understood by the community,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “By combining enforcement with advocacy and proactive education, we are taking a balanced approach to tackling illegal land use.”
