Town of Caledon celebrates 100 years of firefighting services in 2025
CALEDON, ON (February 06, 2025) – The Town of Caledon is celebrating 100 years of firefighting services – honoring a century of bravery, innovation, and commitment to community safety. As a leader in this field and 1 of 2 distinguished Regional Training Centres in the GTA, Caledon’s fire department has set the standard for excellence, embracing innovative techniques and technologies to protect residents.
“Firefighting is deeply woven into the fabric of our town’s history and culture,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “As we celebrate 100 years of dedicated service, we recognize the bravery and sacrifice of our firefighters. This milestone is not only a tribute to their unwavering commitment but also an opportunity for the community to come together and show appreciation for those who protect us.”
Since its inception in 1925, our firefighters have played an integral role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community and have become a symbol of courage, dedication, and selfless service.
Firefighting in Caledon has evolved dramatically from its early reliance on human bucket chains and handmade equipment to today's advanced and coordinated fire services. Today, a highly trained team of full-time and volunteer firefighters use cutting-edge technology and equipment, reflecting decades of continuous improvement and strong community support.
“Firefighters are often the first on scene in times of crisis, putting their lives on the line to protect our families and our homes”, said Fire Chief Dave Pelayo. “As we celebrate this significant milestone, I am immensely proud of our team’s pride in safeguarding lives and property. Our firefighters reflect the spirit of community that defines Caledon and I am grateful to work alongside them.”
Throughout 2025, Caledon Fire and Emergency Services will host a variety of events and community activations designed to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire future generations.
