Town of Caledon is calling all artists to get involved in two exciting projects
March 6, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – The Town of Caledon has two exciting art projects launching in the coming weeks, our Caledon Day 50th Anniversary Community Mural and Art in the Halls, and we are looking for artists to get involved.
Caledon Day 50th Anniversary Community Mural
The call out is to commission an artist who will design and illustrate an outline of a mural for a community painting event that will take place during Caledon Day on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The chosen artist will design and illustrate the mural as a giant paint-by-numbers piece, so anyone in the community can help paint it. This mural is a way for Caledon to celebrate our 50th anniversary during Caledon Day, our annual celebration that is now a Top 100 2024 award winner from Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO).
One artist will be selected to design the mural and receive a fee of $3,000 in the process. The artist must be able to attend at Caledon Day; the project is expected to be finished by August 15, with an installation and unveiling set for September (exact date to be determined).
The approximate size of the mural will be 6’ x 8’ and the design will be completed on crezon MDO board.
Those interested should email culture@caledon.ca by Sunday, March 31, 2024, with their full name, address, phone number, images of previous public art and relevant projects, as well as a written or visual description of their proposed approach to this public mural and how Caledon’s 50th anniversary will be incorporated.

Art in the Halls
The Town of Caledon’s Art in the Halls program is a new program that will showcase original artwork from Caledon artists to the public via recreation and culture facilities throughout Caledon. These exhibition spaces will provide a platform for professional and emerging artists, instructors and students in the community. Art will be displayed in three Town facilities for a period of 12 weeks, with applications being accepted on a quarterly basis.
The theme for our first intake is 50 Years of Caledon.
Applications for the summer exhibition period are due by Sunday, March 31, 2024. The summer period will run from May 1 through to August 30.

“We are excited to launch these two new arts and culture initiatives, designed to not only showcase our local artists, but to bring the community together to appreciate their creations, and to also create one for the entire community to enjoy,” said Catherine McLean, Commissioner of Community and Human Services. “Celebrating a 50th anniversary is an exciting event, and these two initiatives will help us celebrate Caledon’s milestone birthday together as a community.”
