Town of Caledon recruiting for Accessibility Advisory Committee

August 6, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – The Town of Caledon is currently seeking dedicated citizens interested in using their knowledge and experience to serve the community as members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC).

Applications for the AAC are being accepted until Friday, September 13 at 4:30 p.m. The AAC will begin meeting this fall.

Accessibility Advisory Committee 
The Accessibility Advisory Committee is responsible for raising community awareness surrounding persons with disabilities and provides advice and recommendations to Council on ensuring a barrier free community. The Committee focuses on the review of site plans, playgrounds and community parks, pursuant to the standards as outlined in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)

In addition to their legislated requirements the Committee will be responsible for the following: 

  • Advise Council on matters pertaining to accessibility for persons with disabilities 

  • Advise and inform Council of new legislation and funding initiatives 

  • Advise and develop working relationships with relevant groups and individuals 

  • Advise and assist with the development of education programs and promote the activities of the Committee 

  • Advise and inform Council with regard to accessibility issues as they arise 

  • Assist in the creation and annual review of the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
