Town of Caledon Renews the Collective Agreement with CUPE 966-07 Outside Workers

June 11, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – Under the leadership of Mayor Annette Groves, the Town of Caledon is pleased to announce the successful ratification of collective agreement with our outside workers, averting any disruption in service. Caledon Council today unanimously approved the four-year collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 966-07, the union representing the Town’s 100+ outside workers. This agreement underscores the Town’s commitment to providing the highest level of service to residents while retaining and attracting the best quality staff.

Our outside workers include staff from Roads Operations, Recreation and Parks. The newly negotiated contract, ratified by the bargaining unit members on June 10, includes a 12.25 per cent wage increase over the next four years commencing April 1, 2023, along with enhanced benefits.

Mayor Annette Groves expressed gratitude for the dedication and hard work of the Town’s outside staff, stating, "Our staff, from those maintaining our roads and parks to our employees within recreation, play a crucial role in keeping Caledon running smoothly and ensuring our community remains a great place to live. This new agreement reflects our commitment to them and our recognition of their invaluable contributions."

The Town believes that investing in our workforce is paramount to delivering the best possible services to our residents. This agreement is a significant step in ensuring that Caledon remains an attractive and supportive place for our employees, while delivering value to our taxpayers.

"We are dedicated to retaining and attracting talent," added Tarnvir Grewal, Chief Human Resources Officer. "By providing competitive wages and enhanced benefits, we can continue to uphold the high standards of service that our residents expect and deserve."

Cam Richardson, CUPE Unit Vice President of the local, commented,  "We believe that this new agreement is a good first step in assuring that the Town will be able to meet the staffing needs for the current and the future residents of Caledon."
