Town of Caledon to celebrate PWHL players at a Hometown Party at the CECC
CALEDON, ON (January 30, 2024) – On January 1, 2024, the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) premiered with its first regular season game with Toronto hosting Minnesota. On January 2, the Ottawa franchise played its first game, featuring two Caledon natives, Zoe Boyd and Kristin Della Rovere.
Zoe Boyd joined the PWHL Ottawa franchise after a successful collegiate career at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s division, while Kristin Della Rovere played in the NCAA for four seasons at Harvard University. Both women were captains of their respective teams in their final NCAA seasons.
On Saturday, February 17, the Town of Caledon is celebrating Zoe and Kristin by holding a Hometown Party at the Caledon East Community Centre (CECC). Residents are invited to join in the celebration from 1-4 p.m. that day, including:
- Free refreshments;
- Watching Zoe and Kristin in action on TV as PWHL Ottawa takes on PHWL Minnesota; and
- A public free skate from 3-3:50 p.m.
“The launch of the PWHL is a historic event and milestone in women’s sports, and we are thrilled to celebrate Zoe and Kristin for being a part of this and representing Caledon proudly,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “I encourage residents to come out and help us celebrate their achievement and cheer them on at our Hometown Party on February 17.”
The Hometown Party begins at 1 p.m. outside of ice pad #1 at the CECC. Come on out and celebrate our fellow Caledonians as they make history playing in the PWHL.
