Town of Caledon wins two international awards for effective communication

CALEDON, ON (October 22, 2024) – The Town of Caledon has received two Gold MarCom Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP) for excellence in public marketing and communication. Caledon won for its 2024 Caledon Day and Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment campaigns.

The MarCom Awards is one of the largest and most respected creative contests in the world. This year, it received over 6,500 entries in over 300 categories from 45 countries. The winning submissions were recognized for creativity and communication effectiveness on Oct. 15.

“Effective communication can be the difference between success and failure of an important program,” said Caledon Mayor Annette Groves. “The awards demonstrate our commitment to building connection and engaging residents, businesses and visitors as we grow together.”

Caledon Day is the town’s biggest annual event, celebrating its community of communities with vendors, culture events, food trucks and big-name musical guests on the main stage. In 2024, the Caledon Day marketing and communications campaign helped increase attendance 66 per cent year-over-year and attract more than 20,000 people (about the seating capacity of Toronto's Scotiabank Arena for a Toronto Raptors game).

Effective recruitment of volunteer firefighters is a key priority to help keep Caledon safe as it grows. The Town’s annual recruitment campaign launched last June, and the communications strategy helped Caledon attract 212 applicants, the most ever in the history of Caledon and 20 per cent more than in 2023.

“International recognition like the MarCom Awards shows that the Town of Caledon not only delivers exceptional events and services for residents, but it also attracts and retains innovative and creative employees who are driven to deliver results for the community,” said Nathan Hyde, CAO of the Town of Caledon.
