Be prepared for winter weather
There are steps you can take to help manage winter weather and stay safe. On December 22, the Town of Caledon issued a Special Weather Statement for a major winter storm expected to bring blowing snow and flash freezes to Caledon and the surrounding area.
Be aware of winter operations crews
Winter operations are underway with crews salting and plowing roads, sidewalks and parking lots.
On average, it takes up to 24 hours after a storm ends to clear and treat the road. Depending on the severity and duration of the storm, this may take more time and multiple treatments.
Major roads used by the most drivers and emergency vehicles are maintained first, followed by residential roads.
During a snow fall, please remember to:
- Clear your sidewalks, driveways and windrows (end of driveway) when it’s safe to do so. This helps ensure the safety of yourself and others. Please be respectful of other users of the road and do not place snow from your private property onto the road. Snow left on the road can cause serious injury to drivers and often requires plow operators to return to push the snow back.
- Please be patient. It may take staff more time to clear roads during extreme weather and back to back storms.
Stay home and avoid driving if possible. For more information, please visit our Snow Removal webpage.
Be a good neighbour
Check on neighbours especially older adults and people with disabilities. Take care when shoveling and be aware of temperatures and the weight of snow. Shoveling early and often can help manage large amounts of snow.
Winter Parking
From November 1 - April 30, street parking when winter precipitation conditions occur is prohibited. To learn more, visit our Winter Parking Restrictions webpage.
