Caledon’s “Leadership Bootcamp” receives $10,000 from Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund
The Town of Caledon’s recreation department will have $10,000 from the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund to support the “Caledon Leadership Development Bootcamp” initiative.
This funding, from the Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Culture, will be used to support a leadership training series that will kick off after National Coaches Week and run from September 2016 to March 2017.
“This funding is an important investment in strengthening the education and capacity of Caledon’s many community sport, recreation and cultural organizations,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “We thank the Ministry, and our partners in the program, Volunteer MBC.”
Funding will be used for workshops, and purchasing a community resource library consisting of the Fundamental Movement Skills Resource Series. The workshops cover a wide range of education and training topics, essential to healthy volunteer development:
• Canadian Sport for Life framework,
• Physical Literacy Concepts
• Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010 (“ONCA”),
• “Secrets of Successful Boards”
• “Leadership and Financial Stability”
• “Volunteer Recruitment, Orientation Retention and Succession Planning”
Workshops are designed for community groups already affiliated with the Town but, space pending, will be open to other volunteer and non-profit organizations in Caledon. The resource library will be available to all affiliated groups, internal recreation and sport programmers.
Community group affiliates will be contacted with more information on this training series. If you are not a community group affiliated with the Town of Caledon but are interested in this free training series, please contact recreation@caledon.ca or 905.584.2272 x.4207.
