Caledon’s proposed 2017 budget focuses on town-wide investments

The proposed 2017 Operating and Capital Budgets were presented to Caledon Council at General Committee today, setting the stage for Town services and capital projects for this year and beyond.  As well, a clear and common theme emerged that this 2017 budget is an investment budget aligned with the priorities in the Council Work Plan, ensuring equitable and town-wide allocation.

“The Town of Caledon’s proposed 2017 budget provides the foundation to continue to build and maintain a strong and prosperous Caledon,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “We are looking forward to engaging with our residents to talk more about this budget at our Coffee with Council sessions throughout the community and at the budget open house at Town Hall.”

Highlights of the Town of Caledon’s 2017 Budget

  • The average homeowner in Caledon, with a $522,000 property, as assessed by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), will see a tax increase of about $10 per month next year.
  • Caledon is a growing community and this budget includes plans for a new community centre, a new fire training centre and a new park – in addition to thousands invested in upgrades and improvements.
  • Caledon Public Library proposes book lockers at the newly opened Belfountain community centre.
  • The Town has always been focused on responsible financial management and, over the past decade, has significantly closed the gap in funding for capital infrastructure.

  • In partnership with the TRCA, and with generous grant funding from the Jays Care Foundation, the Town’s Community Services Department is planning to complete the Challenger Baseball Diamond at the Bolton Camp.
