Family Day closures and free family-fun activities

CALEDON, ON (February 2, 2024) – Get ready, get set and go for an unforgettable Family Day weekend packed with excitement! The Town of Caledon is delighted to present an array of free events that guarantee family fun for everyone. While the festivities are sure to make this a weekend to remember, there are a few closures to keep in mind as well.

Events taking place:

Saturday February 17:

Reese’s Rink Grand Opening

On Saturday, February 17, the Town of Caledon will be holding a special ceremony from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to officially open the new outdoor rink at the Caledon East Community Complex (CECC).

The ceremony includes a puck drop by Mayor Annette Groves with Reese’s parents, and members of Reese’s Caledon Hawks hockey team. Refreshments will be available in Banquet Hall A in the CECC and Reese’s memorabilia will be available for viewing.

Hometown Party Celebrating Professional Women’s Hockey

Also on Saturday, February 17, the Town of Caledon is celebrating Zoe Boyd and Kristin Della Rovere by holding a Hometown Party at the Caledon East Community Centre (CECC). Residents are invited to join in the celebration from 1-4 p.m. that day, including free refreshments, a free public skate from 3: - 3:50 p.m. and a public viewing of Zoe and Kristin in action as Ottawa takes on Minnesota.

Caledon Public Library Family Friendly Activities

Join the Caledon Public Library for family friendly programs and activities across select branches on Saturday, February 17. Check the Events Calendar for details. 

Sunday February 18:

Family Community Clue

Southfields Community Centre – Sunday February 18 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Caledon South Asian Association is proud to host a fun game of Family Community Clue, pick up your game card, answer the clues about your neighbourhood and you could win a basket of local treats for the whole family.

Stop by and say hello to your local firefighters at the Caledon Fire and Emergency Services fire safety table.

Monday February 19:

Free Activities with Recreation Caledon

Free drop-in activities are scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on February 19 at the following locations:

  • Albion Bolton Community Centre
  • Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness
  • Caledon East Community Complex
  • Lloyd Wilson Centennial Arena
  • Southfields Community Centre

Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum Pop-Up Exhibit

On Monday, February 19, visit this free exhibit presented in collaboration with The Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum. This pop-up exhibit features innovators of African descent and a range of African inventions, including the window cleaner, the eggbeater, space shuttle retrieval, and more.  The exhibit from 10 am-3 pm on Family Day on Monday, February 19at the Humber River Centre located at 28 Ann Street in Bolton

Closures:
  • Town offices and non-emergency services including Animal Services, Library and Provincial Offences Courts, in Orangeville and Caledon East, will be closed on Monday, February 19, 2024.  
  • Caledon Public Library Branches will be closed on Sunday February 18 as well as Family Day. 
After-hours Emergencies  

For after-hours emergencies such as downed trees on roads or flooding, call the Region of Peel at 1-800-563-7881.   

To report an urgent issue about a stray domestic animal (certain conditions apply) or a sick and/or injured animal, call the Town’s after-hours service at 1-800-563-7881.  

For power outages or to report downed wires, call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235. To view the status of power outages, view their outage map.  

The non-emergency number for the Caledon Ontario Provincial Police is 1-888-310-1122.  

If the emergency is life-threatening, call 9-1-1.
