Skateboard / BMX Parks
UPDATE (March 1, 2018): Council has approved the Alton capital project to proceed with construction in 2018. See final concept linked below.
As part of Parks Capital project 16-016, Town of Caledon staff hosted two community meetings on October 27 and December 1, 2016, both of which were well attended by our target audience (youth between the ages of 10-19).
Both boys and girls were eager to provide their input into the planning and design of a proposed Skate Park in Caledon Village and proposed BMX Park in Alton Village.
Preliminary concepts were presented at the second public meeting on December 1, 2016.
Based on the input received to date, our Consultants are now in the process of refining the preliminary concepts. They will be posted once completed.

Background
Town of Caledon Council approved capital project 16-016 Alton and Caledon Village Skate/BMX Park Design in the 2016 Capital Budget in the amount of $33,000.
The purpose of this project is to design Skate/BMX facilities for the villages of Alton and Caledon Village.
No specific location was named in the 2016 Capital Budget.
Town of Caledon staff issued a Request For Proposal (RFP 2016-74) for the Consultation and Design for Caledon Village Skate Park and Alton Village BMX/Pump Track Park on August 23, 2016. The RFP closed on September 8, 2016 and the contract was awarded to New Line Skateparks Inc.
New Line Skateparks Inc along with Town of Caledon staff held a community design workshop at Caledon Village Place on October, 27. The purpose of this workshop was to engage youth in the design process and to gain valuable input on what elements they would like to see incorporated into the design of any proposed Skate/BMX facility.
It was a very successful workshop with about 25 enthusiastic youth from both Alton and Caledon Village engaged and actively participating in the design of a facility that they feel is a need for their community.
A follow-up to that meeting will be held on December, 1 at the Alton Library at 7:00 pm. The purpose of the second meeting is to present the concept drawings of the facilities designed for both Alton and Caledon Village based on the provided input.
Final concept drawings and estimated costs will represent the conclusion of Capital Project 16-016. This will provide staff and Council with the basis to understand the budget and space requirements needed to construct such facilities. At this point there is no capital budget or final location for construction of Skate/BMX Park facilities. No capital project to construct such facilities has been proposed in the 2017 capital budget.
Construction of any Skate/BMX Park anywhere will be at the discretion of Council through future capital budget discussions. A preliminary review of existing Town owned lands has been carried out for future reference. Before any construction project takes place, a public engagement exercise will be undertaken to listen to any concerns that may arise from any proposed locations. At that time, steps will be taken to help address those concerns.
