Animal Services Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question? We may have the answers! Check out our list of frequently asked questions below.
How long is this found pet on hold for? When will this found pet be available for adoption? |
The Caledon Animal Shelter is required to hold all stray dogs and cats for 72 hours (not including the day they came in, weekends or holidays). If they have not been claimed by the owner within that timeframe, the shelter will make the animal available for adoption, pending a behaviour/health assessment.
This timeframe can greatly and is dependent on the following:
Once an animal is available for adoption, they will be posted on our Adopt a Pet webpage. Anyone interested in adoption should visit our webpage for regular updates. Please note we do not keep a waiting list for adoptions. |
Can you give an update on the found pet posted on your Facebook Page? Are they available for adoption or have they been returned to their owners? |
Updates on the animals' status will be provided directly on the pet’s Facebook post. Animals that are made available for adoption will also be posted on our Petfinder site at caledon.petfinder.com. |
This found pet you posted looks similar to mine/a missing pet I saw someone else looking for. |
If you see a found animal on our Facebook page and you believe this maybe your missing pet, please contact the shelter at 905-584-2272 x4698 for more information. Staff will be happy to answer any of your questions and can arrange for owners to come in and ID the pet. |
We dropped off a stray animal but haven’t seen them posted on your Facebook Page. |
If a stray is not posted on our Facebook page, it likely means the animal had identification or staff had a matching lost report and the animal has been reunited with its owner! |
I'm interested in adopting the pet I saw on your Facebook Page. Is this animal still available for adoption? |
If the Facebook Post status shows the pet as available for adoption, please contact the shelter by phone at 905-584-2272 x4698 or by email at animal.services@caledon.ca. Staff will be happy to answer your questions and can send you an adoption application by email. Alternatively, you can visit our website at caledon.petfinder.com to view the animal’s adoption profile. |
