Columbia Way EA
October 13, 2021 - The Town of Caledon has completed a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study for Columbia Way between Highway 50 and Caledon King Townline. The Study examined alternative solutions and design concepts to address long term issues related to planned future growth, enhance the safety of the Columbia Way Road corridor, and promote infrastructure improvements that facilitate walking and cycling.
The Study was conducted according to the requirements for a Schedule “B” project in the Municipal Engineers Association document titled Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015). Public participation was an important part of the Class EA process. Throughout the study, the Town made contact with various agencies and members of the community, and considered their opinions as part of the recommended preliminary design.
The study recommended several improvements to intersections including a new roundabout at Mount Hope Road, improved pedestrian and cyclist amenities including a new signalized crosswalk and multi-use path, and enhanced stormwater management facilities.
The Environmental Study Report documents the planning, public and agency consultations, preliminary design and decision-making process undertaken for the project.
